FERPA is one of the key controls on use of student information on campus. It is supposed to protect students – usually it only protects campuses, that use the law to create a smokescreen around their own practices. “The Education Department will issue a final rule today that will make it easier for states to track students’ academic progress and evaluate education programs.”
