DHS acknowledges investigating people based on their use of various words in social media such as facebook or twitter. The operation apparently is intended to assist undercover police in efforts to penetrate protest groups and neutralize them. An advocate’s social media references to some topics can be used as (perhaps flimsy) legal basis to justify civil right infringement by police who might otherwise limited in profiling activities.
