We’ve all long-known that printer manufactures commonly modify output in subtle ways to ensure unique registration information on output, so authorities can track down whence some unwanted media came. (So sorry if you print freedom-oriented literature in a repressive regime – your printer can be tied to its output, if not used to trace back through a supply chain to uniquely find you. Hopefully that next knock on the door is not from some death squad out to express maximum leader’s displeasure with you.)

The list of companies working with the feds in this way is now confirmed, via a Freedom of Information Act request.
