As scientists we measure many things. What if we were to evaluate the effectiveness of, say, college? That’s the discussion which is emerging. It is worth your consideration. We’re pretty confident that most metrics mentioned in this article are woefully short of capturing the full essence of a good quality education, but by the same token, we’re also pretty confident that officials on this campus don’t want crisp and objective observations made about our effectiveness, because such things reveal practices whose obvious improvements might be to remove the troughs from which those officials feed.
