A supporter of Bradley Manning (soldier accused of illegal disclosures of classified information in the Wikileaks case) won the right to advance his case against the government over DHS’s having captured and copied his laptop at the border as he returned from a vacation. The individual was detained and questioned about Manning, not anything to do with border security, customers or other things DHS is ostensibly concerned about in securing a port of entry. The government had moved to dismiss and was denied this motion, as the judge agreed that the governments ‘right’ to warrantless search at the border might not turn out to be reasonable if based on political speech.
