Freedom of Information Act requests (and the related legal maneuverings needed to get government to actually comply with the law) show a host of authorized domestic locations set up for operating drone technologies – exactly the same aero platforms in use for CIA kill missions overseas. While many of these sites are registered to unsurprising organizations, many are registered to universities.

Here in Maryland, take note of the Queen Anne Sheriff’s office having had a flirtation with drone surveillance. What the heck do they need this for? Because they can, is the likely answer, but good luck trying to learn specifics. That takes extra public information action which, in Maryland, can be denied as a “security matter.” This leaves us only our imagination as to what would be the motivation – or cost to taxpayers.
