A marvelous TED talk about internet monitoring of your every electronic act is worthy of your consideration, especially because it introduces a simple tool to help you understand where you information (at least in part) goes. Awareness of a problem is certainly a first step toward solving that problem, so the tool this speaker describes, called Collusion, might be something you should check out. It is available as a plug in for Firefox.
