With time running out before a summer recess, several competing packages of legislation are still moving targets in Washington. A Senate package recently relaxed its language to make compliance with certain federal standards voluntary. Still on the House side is the controversial package which provides civil immunity for companies that share private information with the feds, as part of cybersecurity monitoring. In order to advance further, either bill would need to compromise with the others’ house, and were it to emerge, would face the question of whether President Obama would sign it.
