The US government is increasing its monitoring of employees, with expansive network instrumentation, tracking of social media and in some cases phone use. Usually done under the mantle of protecting trade secrets or halting inappropriate disclosures of information, a fear is that it also chills whistleblowers from exposing inappropriate government activities.
