AU smartmeter data are widely shared

Data from smartmeters – electric meters which can paint a very detailed picture of a consumer’s home energy usage – are being shared “far and wide” in Australia, allowing others to build an extensive profile about the consumer. This includes, for example, when the consumer is at home – useful information for bill collectors who might want to ensure their trip out for a ‘visit’ is productive.
