The administration on Wednesday extended by executive order the whistleblower protections to federal cybersecurity workers, which plugs a gap that advocates for protection had felt was left open in federal whistleblower laws enacted earlier. Previously, workers in security areas had been excluded under a cloud of the usual DHS-esque warnings about national security concerns. The present order makes clear that these employees are protected to report instances of waste, fraud and abuse.
