As the EU considers strong new updates to its 1995 privacy directive, corporate America is working hard against the proposals. Among the several provisions at issue is a so-called “right to be forgotten”, which would recognize each citizen’s right to have data about them deleted from the internet. Facebook in particular is promoting others’ “right to remember” those citizens – “to continue marketing stuff to people’s friends in perpetuity.”
