A nice overview from EFF on the the state of litigation over “first sale” policy, which says once you buy some product containing some intellectual property, you own it. The copyright industry wants that practice changed, so people would instead only be able to license a product – hence boosting demand for the copyright holders’ wares, since there would be stronger limits on any secondary market.
