Replacement electric meters may soon be coming to your home in Maryland too, something which causes many people concern (the essence of the story linked too.) Smart meters collect snapshots of your home’s energy activity in 15 minute increments and broadcasts it for use by utilities, which say this somehow helps reduce your costs. (It doesn’t. It helps them reduce their costs, which aren’t necessarily passed on to you.)
